A lock down at the Grant campus in Brentwood was lifted following a report of a possible weapon on campus, the college said Thursday afternoon.
“It has been determined that two plain-clothes law enforcement officers were on the Grant campus and have been identified as the individuals seen carrying weapons,” the college said in a statement at 12:24 p.m. “At this time, the lock down is lifted and an all-clear has been issued.”
An initial statement at 12:04 p.m. from the college, shared with students via text, email and a call, said, “If you are on the Grant Campus—shelter in place. Others should not enter the campus until further communications are issued.”
According to Baycan Fideli, director of public safety for Suffolk County Community College, “What we saw on the alert is what we got so far. Two non-uniformed officers stopping for lunch and they were carrying their weapons. People got nervous and called it in.”
Suffolk County police were also on the scene, the college said.
The college’s spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.
