Don’t be scared, join a club!
Hundreds of students crowded the Veterans Plaza during Common hour on September 4 for the club fair, which included 51 diverse clubs and organizations catering to students’ interests. A club fair is a place for students to find their place here at Suffolk County Community College, having something for everyone and leaving no reason for students not to get involved.
The students are dedicated!
Students and their advisors work together to organize our club fair. Between set up and take down, we dedicate our time to creating a fun and self-exploratory event where students can find people with similar interests. Finding your club is one of the most significant opportunities you can take hold of here at Suffolk. It creates excellent friendships and helps you find opportunities you didn’t even know you could gain.
What’s your direction?
It can get quite overwhelming getting lost in the sea of clubs, many of which you don’t know what they do. Knowing your interests and what you want to do with your spare time can lead you to more appealing clubs.
Knowing what you hope to get out of a club is essential when looking for one. From the Muslim Students Association to the Opera Club, we give students many ways to explore new interests. Whether it is a hobby you would like to explore or a way to gain more access to your major, having a direction is helpful.
Know your schedule
With our numerous clubs here at Suffolk, it can be easy to get lost in the trap of signing up for too many clubs. Managing your time between classes and off periods can help you find the best clubs that suit your interests and fit your schedule. Overbooking and over lapping clubs is one thing because you can alternate the weeks, but overlapping clubs with classes is a big NO! Its important to remember school always comes first and there is always something else that will work best for you.
Be bold and ask questions.
As advisors, we are here to help you no matter the question, whether we are pointing you in the right direction around campus or answering any questions you may have about our club. They’re the professionals. They’re prepared for any question you throw their way and are there to help steer you on the right path.
Feel free to sign up.
It’s essential to remember that signing up for a club does not mean you’re signing yourself over to the club for the semester. It’s simply an inquiry for more information and an invitation to the first club meeting. So, sign up for as many things as you want, and at the end of the week, you can decide what club best fits your interests
Trying something new can be terrifying, and there are so many new things to try with so many different clubs. Don’t be afraid to sign up for something you have never done; there’s always the opportunity to learn.
