On Tuesday, October 1, and Wednesday, October 2, all three Suffolk County Community College campuses will issue test alerts at 10:15 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
While students are not required to respond to these alerts, it’s crucial to understand that they may receive multiple test notifications. This understanding is a sign of your responsibility and proactive approach towards campus safety.
Suffolk is fortunate to have several communication platforms due to its access to electronic media. Suppose a public safety member feels there may be a threat to any of the campuses. In that case, an officer will issue an alert using text messages, e-mail, building intercom speakers, digital screens, or phone alerts. The college also uses NY Alerts, a New York State Emergency Management Office service. School Messenger is how the school contacts the college community. RAVE-GUARDIAN App is a free app that links your school email to allow access to your school’s public safety by clicking a button. The school also offers training videos on active shootings and Narcan administration.
Immediate notifications will be sent for things that are actively happening, such as active crime or severe weather, while timely notifications will address developing situations. The type of event will decide the type of notification sent.
It is important to remember that these alerts take time to activate, so if you become involved in a safety-related cause, be aware of your surroundings and messages sent out by Suffolk official messengers.
Many of the Suffolk students and staff members are trained in CPR and Narcan administration, empowering them to help in a situation if needed. Remember, always call 911 or 311 from any campus phone.
The three public safety offices are located in Ammerman Campus Lower Level- Kreiling Hall (631) 451-4242, Eastern Campus 119 Peconic Building (631) 451-4242, Michael J. Grant Campus North Cottage, Public Safety (631) 451-4242.
