Being a freshman in college is no easy feat, but hopefully these 5 tips will help you out and make your start here at Suffolk a great one.
Attend Orientation
For the newcomers at Suffolk, orientation is meant to be an introduction to the college.
You’ll be able to schedule your classes, meet new classmates, take a tour around the college and familiarize yourself with the campus.
Meet with an Advisor
Here at Suffolk, we have plenty of helping hands ready to assist you anytime. Don’t be intimidated to speak with academic advisors. They’re able to help you with scheduling conflicts such as adding or dropping classes, and discovering which classes are right for you.
Get Involved in Campus Activities
There’s so much to do on campus, so don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and try something new. Whether it be through clubs, sports, peer tutoring, there’s something for everyone at Suffolk. Additionally, getting involved is the best way to meet new people and connect through shared interests.
Arrive to Class Punctual and Prepared to Learn
Make sure you arrive on time to your classes, prepared and ready to learn. Make sure you have everything you need and take diligent notes in whatever form works best for you. While your professors want the best for you, but this isn’t high school anymore. If you forget something, it’s completely on you to learn from the consequences of your actions.
Utilize The Writing Center
The writing center is not just for writing. There are Professors who can help you with any sort of written assignment, projects, and even more. If you’re struggling, stop by and ask for help. You can sit and get true one-on-one assistance. Students I’ve talked to have said that it helped them massively during their first semester, given the workload they received. As a freshman myself, I know how you feel. College has been an extreme adjustment for me in more ways than one. I hope these tips inspire you to reach your fullest potential and work hard to thrive. Remember, the work doesn’t stop after your first semester. Though things might seem more challenging, it’s only the beginning!
