About the sport:
NASCAR – the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, is a sport not only known for its racing but for its popularity, global reaches and its long season.
NASCAR has three national series: NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series, and lastly NASCAR Cup Series.
According to Sportskeeda, NASCAR is popular for its family-friendly sport. In this sport many racers are family generations of this sport. For example: The Earnhardt’s, Elliot, Petty, Gibbs, etc. The NASCAR Cup Series races are usually held on Sunday afternoons, which is when most families have the time to spend with each other.
NASCAR has also reached worldwide attention. According to a story by Zach Albert from NASCAR.com, he spoke about the news of the Cup Series making its debut in Mexico next season and will be the “first international points event in the division’s modern history in 2025.”
This sport is also evolving and continuing to grow throughout the years. To start out, the 2022 season of NASCAR introduced the new body model called “Next Gen.” According to Sportskeeda, the technology was designed to “reduce costs for teams and increase viewers’ interest in racing.”
Look into the 2024 Season:
NASCAR starts its season off every year with the Daytona 500. Many people like to call this race NASCAR’s “Super Bowl.” The energy this race brings to its fans and racers is electric. This race is the start of NASCAR’s 10 month long season. This year the winner of the Daytona 500 was William Byron driver of the #24 Chevrolet. He was able to give Hendrick Motorsports its first win of the 2024 season.
To the fans who follow NASCAR like myself, Daytona 500 is not the only big race of the season we are waiting for. Talladega is another fan favorite as it is known as NASCAR’s most competitive track. According to Nascar.com, “ The biggest NASCAR oval is Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Alabama. It measures at 2.66 miles.” This track becomes really competitive towards the end of the race as the racers fight for the win and that’s when “the big one” erupts. This means the big crash. More than half of the cars get wiped out. Some cars are able to be fixed and finish the race and others are not able to be saved. The winner of this year’s race was Tyler Reddick of the #45 Toyota for 23XI Racing.
Then came along the playoffs, the time of year where you hope your favorite racer advances in each round. In order to advance to the playoffs you either have to win or it goes based on your points. There are 4 rounds in the playoffs. You have the “Round of 16,” “Round of 12,” “Round of 8,” and “Round of 4.” Each round the number of racers decreases. For instance only 16 racers advance to the playoffs, then 12 and so forth. My favorite driver Kyle Larson made it to the playoffs and was able to hold on till the last race before the championship. He gave a good fight but was unable to clinch a spot for the championship four. Everyone races in the championship but only the four who advanced are competing for the championship title and trophy.
This year’s winner of the NASCAR Cup Series 2024 season was Joey Logano. The championship was held in Avondale, AZ at Phoenix Raceway. According to Bleacher Report, Joey Logano claimed his third NASCAR Cup Series Championship after his 2024 season victory. Joey Logano defeated driver Ryan Blaney by 0.33 seconds followed by William Byron who finished third and Kyle Larson who placed fourth.
After securing his win for the 2024 Cup Series Championship Joey Logano took a trip to the Big Apple touring New York City and celebrating his victory with the big trophy.
Following the NASCAR 2024 season driver Martin Truex Jr. has stepped away from full-time racing according to Newsweek. Truex has made outstanding achievements during his career with 693 races and 34 wins, 147 top five finishes, and 25 pole positions.
NASCAR’s Cup Series 2025 season will return Sunday February 2, 2025, for the NASCAR Clash at Bowman Gray @8 p.m. EST. Following the Daytona 500 which is scheduled for Sunday, February 16, 2025 @2:30 p.m. EST.
