Match Cards So Far:
Cody Rhodes vs. Kevin Owens For The Undisputed WWE Championship
While the worthy son of Dusty Rhodes shines in the spotlight, how long will it be until someone
tries bringing him down, especially someone close to him?
On Saturday, Cody Rhodes will have to defend his Undisputed WWE Championship in a title
fight against his former close friend, Kevin Owens. After sharing blood, sweat, and tears their
bond has broken and all war has broken loose.
Proven in the ring multiple times, Kevin Owens is at his best when he is a heel and fighting for a
prize. This match will absolutely have the entire coliseum chanting and screaming for the victor.
Liv Morgan vs. Iyo Sky For The Women’s World Championship
Although the tension and rivalry between Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley are still there, a new
woman has her eyes on the prize, Iyo Sky. Known for her crazy flips and off the rope signatures,
Iyo Sky defeated four other Superstars in a battle royal to earn her spot against Liv Morgan at
Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Gunther vs. Finn Balor For The World Heavyweight Championship
Since SummerSlam 2024, Finn Balor has been sticking his nose in Gunther’s business since he
helped The Ring General become World Champion. After trying to prove himself multiple times
against former champion Damian Priest, Balor constantly ended up in Gunther’s way, leading to
attacks on Monday Night Raw. This rivalry has led to a title match between the two to see who
the better fighter is.
A New Belt For The Women’s Division
Announced on November 8, 2024, on an episode of Friday night smackdown, a new belt has
been added to the women’s division. The woman’s United States Championship belt is up for
grabs and its first ever title fight will be during Saturday Night’s Main Event.
As of right now the final contenders fighting Saturday Night still remain anonymous, but will be
determined the night before, after the women superstar bracket is only left with two hungry
fighters, who are looking for a new belt.
What Happened To Saturday Night Main Events?
Long before the creation of Monday Night Raw was Saturday Night’s Main Event. This ran
throughout the 1980s and early ‘90s, where all of the biggest stuff outside of PPVs would go
down. It was originally broadcasted by NBC and replaced Saturday Night Live’s late night time
slot on an occasional basis throughout the year.
While Saturday Night’s Main Event drew in large audiences for much of its run, WWF decided to
throw in a new spinoff called “The Main Event,” airing annually on a Friday in 1988. In the 1990s
the ratings began to fall, leading to NBC dropping the specials in 1991 and 1992. With this,
WWF moved Saturday Night Main Event over to Fox, which aired two versions on the network
before being discontinued.
In 2006, Saturday Night’s Main Event was briefly revived as a series of prime time specials on
NBC, as part of WWE’s agreement with NBC Universal to air its weekly program of Raw on USA
Network. After the five episodes aired as its revived run, it was discontinued in 2008.
This turn of events led WWE in April 2022, to repurpose the Saturday Night Main Event title for
house shows held on Saturday nights. In September 2024, as part of an agreement moving
WWE Smackdown from Fox to USA, WWE announced that it would revive their Saturday Night
Main Event once again when on NBC.
