His parents were immigrants: his father was Puerto Rican and originated from Brooklyn NY, with his mother from the Philippines and had some Spanish ancestry. When he was two years old, his father nicknamed him Bruno (his real name is Peter Gene Hernandez), after a professional wrestler named Bruno Sammartino. His third album 24k Magic came out in 2016 with the titular song “24k Magic”. It was number two on the Billboards He eventually worked with Silk Sonic, which was a duo with him and Anderson Paak. Their lead single “Leave the Door Open” was released in 2021. They collaborated on other songs such as “Skate,” and “Smokin’ out the Window,” which the duo received the Grammys for Record of the Year, Song of The Year, Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song.
In 2024, Bruno Mars collaborated with Lady Gaga on a song titled “Die with a Smile”. He also did a song called APT. With K-POP singer Rose who was from the K-POP band BLACKPINK.
