Suffolk County Community College is seeking donations for all of its food pantries due to a surge in demand for food assistance throughout the college.
The request comes as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits are set to end on Nov. 1.
The Ammerman campus food pantry is located in the lower level of the Babylon Student Center.
Patricia Munsch, vice president for student affairs, said in a statement that many students and families are experiencing reduced access to food support.
“As a result, our campus pantries are seeing a significant increase in demand,” she said. “Every day, we hear from students who are struggling to meet their basic nutritional needs and are relying on our pantries to get through the month.”
To help meet this growing need, the college is asking for the following:
- Shelf-stable foods: pasta, rice, canned vegetables, peanut butter, soups
- Frozen items: meats, vegetables, ready-to-cook meals
How You Can Help:
- Donate food items directly to our campus pantries
- Organize a food drive through your office, department, or student club
- Share this message with your networks—every effort makes a difference
