On September 15 – October 15 the College will honor and celebrate Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month. Our first event is scheduled for Thursday, September 15th from 11 am to 1 pm in the Babylon Student Center cafeteria. The event will feature live music from one of Long Island’s leading salsa bands, La Sonora 495. This 7 piece band is comprised of musicians from Long Island who have performed with the likes of Marc Anthony and Wyclef Jean. The event will also feature cultural face painting and Hispanic inspired cultural crafts.

During the kick off program, a Cultural Awareness Celebration Campaign will take place in the Babylon Student Center lobby.  The celebration campaign is a collaboration between the Chief Diversity Officer, the Center for Social Justice and Human Understanding, Multicultural Affairs, and the Radio and Television Production program. Students, faculty, administrators, and staff are invited to stop by the Babylon Student Center lobby on Thursday, September 15, 2022 to get their photo taken in support of this campaign focused on cultural celebration, appreciation and allyship. This will be the first campaign in the series that will feature portraits celebrating Latinx/Hispanic Heritage Month. As a newly designated  Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) we hope you will take this opportunity to celebrate and show support of the College’s new designation and Latinx/ Hispanic Heritage Month.

Our closing event will feature our campus Student Affairs Deans Martinez, Aguirre and Velasquez listening to students as they help us better understand what SCCC can do as a newly designated Hispanic Serving Institution.
