Riley Zalbert, Managing Editor

Riley Zalbert graduated from Walt Whitman High School in 2020 during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.  Going away to SUNY Oneonta as a history education major in the fall of that year, the pandemic was still rampant, causing college closures across the U.S.  Finding online learning difficult in all aspects his grades slipped slowly. Returning for the spring 2020 semester the trend continued. Enrolling on the Ammerman campus in the fall of 2021, Riley was looking for a fresh start and started to look into a journalism degree. As he knew little about how the newspaper or newsroom would work, he joined the Compass News club in the fall of that year. Continuing to learn and grow in the subject, Riley began to produce for the paper and has been involved ever since. With the help of professors and peers, Riley has become a proficient writer and learning the new role of managing editor for the spring 2023 semester.  He will continue his schooling after Suffolk across the country at Seattle University and can’t thank those enough for encouraging him to pursue his passion.
